New landmark becomes trendsetter for property projects in Chongqing

Singapore-headquartered property developer GuocoLand launched its large-scale mixed-use development, 18T Mansion, on July 7 in Southwest China's Chongqing.

Adjoining the 18 Steps neighborhood in Chongqing's Yuzhong district, 18T Mansion comprises residential and commercial spaces that are set to reinvent life, said the company.

Hoon Teck Ming, group managing director of GuocoLand China, said at the launch that he and his team had conducted research into international lifestyles and integrated them into their designs in an effort to make 18T Mansion a landmark of Chongqing.

This landmark, according to them, should be one that respects the land it stands on and its history. It should be able to connect the old with the new and combine foreign with local.

Hoon takes pride in his obsession with perfection and details. "I see every project as my child and therefore the only thing I care about is how to raise them properly," he said.

He insisted that the infinity pools in 18T Mansion be designed to Olympic length standards. They are heated and equipped with a monitoring system that can detects drowning swimmers. The alarms inside the buildings can be activated either by pushing a button or pulling a cord so that even people who have fallen are able to reach them.

The access panels of air conditioners are hidden inside air outlets so that the ceiling has a clean look. Sharp corners in the lobbies have been rounded so that children can't hurt themselves when running around, the company said.

In addition to rubbish chute collection systems and insect-and smell-proof floor drains, 18T Mansion offers clean air with state-of-the-art photocatalytic disinfection systems in its common areas.

Senior Vice-President of the International WELL Building Institute (Asia) Tony Armstrong attended the launch. He said 18T Mansion is poised to become the first building in Asia to achieve Platinum WELL Certification, a building rating system by the IWBI that focuses on human health and wellness.

The project of 18T Mansion also impressed Fang Jinlong, a pipa virtuoso who was invited to perform at the launch. Architecture can be viewed as "solidified music", he said. "Hoon's efforts to redefine life through 18T Mansion and mine to promote Chinese folk music in new ways are driven by the same thing-a passion for art."

GuocoLand has been active in China since 1994. According to the company, it has developed various high-quality properties including residences, office towers and serviced apartments in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Tianjin.
