Medic gunman killed after hurting 2 sailors
A Navy medic shot and wounded two US sailors at a military facility on Tuesday, then fled to a nearby Army base where security forces shot and killed him, police and Navy officials said. Authorities said they had yet to determine what drove 38-year-old Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet to open fire at the facility, located in an office park in Frederick, Maryland. Meanwhile in Chicago, a 21-month-old boy was shot in the head on Tuesday morning while riding in a car on Chicago's famed Lake Shore Drive just hours after seven people were shot and wounded in a fight a few kilometers away, police said.

Seal-hunting bears eat eggs to survive
Hungry polar bears are increasingly foraging on seabird eggs as climate change shrinks their Arctic hunting grounds, with research published on Wednesday on the phenomenon highlighting the struggle these apex predators have to adapt to their rapidly changing environment. The climate change threat to polar bears is well known, driven by the extraordinary pace of change in the Arctic, which is warming twice as fast as the planet as a whole. This is already leading to dwindling sea ice, cutting short the time they have to hunt seals, their preferred prey.
