China Daily Global | Updated: 2021-05-28 00:00

Transportation

The venue for the 10th China Flower Expo is on Chongming Island, which is connected to Shanghai's downtown area by a tunnel bridge on Yangtze River.

There are three ways to get to Chongming-by car, bus or ship.

Shanghai Huangpu River Cruise has launched a special service which runs for 11 days from May 21 to July 2.

The 3.5-hour cruise departs from the port on Shanghai's Qinhuangdao Road in the morning. The cruise from Chongming to the mainland departs at 4 pm.

A round-trip ticket costs 598 yuan ($93) and comes with a lunch set and a buffet dinner. Visitors can look up the service dates and make bookings through online travel agencies or via the company's WeChat mini program.

The municipal transportation commission will also open 17 bus lines from several transportation hubs and major stations in the city to the expo venue, with ticket prices ranging from 16 to 30 yuan.

Visitors are required to reserve their bus seats through the municipal government's public service app Suishenban before 6 pm one day before their trip.

For visitors intending to drive to the venue, reservation for parking spaces around the expo venue is required.

Admission

The price for an expo ticket is 120 yuan on weekdays and 180 yuan on weekends, Dragon Boat Festival (June 14) and the centennial of the Communist Party of China (July 1).

Admission is free to children aged below 6 or under the height of 1.3 meters. Students, military personnel, people with disabilities, and seniors aged 60 or above are entitled to a 30 percent discount.

Tickets can be purchased at the expo's official website and WeChat account, or from travel agencies. Reservations must be made at least one day before the visit. Ticket reservation hotline: 400-100-0701

Lodging

Two years ago, there were 22,000 beds across 261 hotels and 395 bed-and-breakfast accommodations in Chongming.

In anticipation of a tourism boom from the expo, 712 new facilities, including new hotels and renovated homes of locals, have been added to the island over the past few years.

The current tourist accommodation capacity of the island stands at 42,000 beds. Overall lodging quality has improved as well, with guests able to choose from options ranging from budget hostels to five-star hotels.

The WeChat mini program Zhuchongming allows visitors to search and make hotel bookings.

Food

The organizing committee expects 3 million people to visit the flower expo, and participating companies including Bright Food Group and Liangyou Group have made preparations to feed the masses.

Eighteen food trucks, 20 convenience stores and several restaurants and dining areas will provide nearly 7,000 seats throughout the expo. Visitors will be able to find food every 200 meters inside the venue.

Shanghai's classic candy brand White Rabbit will also launch milk tea products and limited edition candies at the flower expo.
