Aung San Suu Kyi given 3 more years in prison
Myanmar's former state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday has been sentenced to three years in jail for electoral fraud in 2020, increasing her total prison term to 20 years, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council confirmed on Saturday. She, along with former president U Win Myint and former minister of the Union Government Office U Min Thu, was found guilty of electoral fraud. Before this sentence, Aung San Suu Kyi had been convicted of multiple charges including corruption and incitement.

Failed attack on vice-president condemned
Argentine business and economic leaders on Friday condemned the attempted assassination of the country's Vice-President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. A man pointed a gun at Fernandez's face as she was outside her home late on Thursday, surrounded by a crowd of supporters. The weapon reportedly jammed, and the shooting was foiled. The suspect, who is in custody, has been identified as 35-year-old Brazilian national Fernando Andres Sabag Montiel.

Wildfire destroys 100 homes and buildings
A wind-swept wildfire in rural Northern California tore through a neighborhood and destroyed about 100 homes and other buildings, fire officials said on Saturday after at least two people were injured and thousands were forced from their homes. The Mill Fire started shortly before 1 pm on Friday just north of Weed city. Two people were taken to Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta. One was in stable condition and the other was transferred to UC Davis Medical Center, which has a burn unit.

20 endangered baby mountain gorillas named
Rwanda on Friday gave names to 20 baby gorillas born over the past 12 months in an annual gorilla conservation event held at the foothills of the mountains in the Northern Province. The annual baby gorilla naming ceremony, commonly known as Kwita Izina, was held for the 18th time. This year's baby gorilla namers included notable partners, conservationists, international celebrities, dignitaries and friends of Rwanda.
