The Hong Kong community said that President Xi Jinping's words when meeting with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu during Lee's four-day debut duty visit to Beijing have greatly boosted the confidence of residents and the international community in the city and paved the way for the Hong Kong SAR's future work.
In addition, the central government's nod to resuming normal travel between the Chinese mainland and the SAR is the best new year gift to Hong Kong and the greatest achievement of Lee's visit, and it shows the central government's continuous help, support and care for the SAR, the city's leaders from various sectors said.
Lee was received by Xi and Premier Li Keqiang on separate occasions in Beijing during his visit, which began on Wednesday and ended on Saturday. Lee briefed them on the latest economic, social and political situation in Hong Kong, and the leaders fully recognized Lee's and the SAR's work.
