Contributions to help solve global challenges
Under the shadow of hot and cold wars, with the post-World War II global governance regime in danger of collapse amid intensifying geopolitical rivalry, there are increasing concerns about major countries rolling back commitments to international cooperation on global challenges such as poverty eradication, climate change and biodiversity loss.
As Western nations drag their feet on honoring their commitments, China has shown the world it is doing the opposite. And nothing has distracted the country from its dedication to multilateral cooperation. It has kept its nose to the grindstone, faithfully fulfilling international commitments, showing the rest of the world its vision of a community with a shared future for humanity is no empty talk.
Over the past four decades, by the World Bank's poverty line prior to September 2022 of $1.9 per person per day, the number of poor people in China declined by nearly 800 million. Lifting so many people out of extreme poverty has been a tremendous contribution to the global cause of poverty alleviation, as it accounted for almost 75 percent of the people lifted out of poverty over the same period worldwide.
