Overall green space plan
Water
Leveraging the advantages of being surrounded by water on three sides and mountains on the other, Pingdu is focused on environmental improvement, and drainage and flood control. It adheres to the integrated management of "five waters", concentrated on environment, ecology, resources, safety and culture. The city has carried out the comprehensive enhancement of five urban river channels that have been interconnected to create a cohesive network. The banks on both sides of the rivers have been landscaped, thereby enhancing the urban greenway system.
Layout
Pingdu has connected nearby pocket parks and urban green spaces by building linear tree-lined corridors and utilizing the city's water systems. This has expanded its total green space and improved accessibility, forming a layout for the park city construction known as "One Axis, Two Rings".
Culture
In the design of park city construction projects, Pingdu integrates local architectural and artisanal elements, traditional customs, history and intangible cultural heritage. It extracts local cultural elements and imagery, and innovative design techniques are used to incorporate them into park landscapes and thematic sculptures, highlighting the city's unique cultural characteristics. For example, in the Shengshui Shanzhuang pocket park, elements of folk culture such as paper-cutting, straw weaving and clay sculpture are incorporated; and Xiamen Road's tree-lined corridor integrates sculptures of the elves who represent China's 24 solar terms in a popular Pingdu-produced animation.
Function
Insisting on a people-friendly concept, Pingdu integrates landscape, service and functionality into its green spaces. It has strategically planned functional zones to create a park city model that harmoniously blends the people-centered concept, green public space, scenic landscapes and a good living environment. The goal is to build a green public space that is harmonious and socially shared between humans and nature.
