Critical global scientific research to take a hit if US bill is passed, warn analysts

Recent measures against Chinese students by some US lawmakers are exacerbating an already hostile environment for these students — which education experts warn could undermine the US' technological leadership and global research collaborations.

A group of House Republicans recently introduced a bill that would bar Chinese nationals from receiving all types of student visas to the US, citing "national security" concerns.

This controversial proposal comes amid increasing scrutiny of Chinese students. The House Select Committee on China has also demanded detailed information regarding Chinese students from Stanford University, the University of Southern California, and several others.
