NANJING — At a resource recycling center, batches of discarded cables are sorted, dismantled, cleaned and processed, transforming waste into valuable raw materials like copper and aluminum for reuse.
This center belongs to State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Co in Xuzhou, a major energy hub for one of China's economic powerhouses — Jiangsu province.
"Extracting metals from end-of-life cables significantly reduces energy consumption and pollution compared to extracting new resources, and saves costs for buyers of recycled metals," said Xu Hang, head of the materials department at the company.
