County in Anhui named famous historical area

A county more than 2,200 years old in Anhui province was recently approved as one of the country's most famous historical and cultural areas, according to an official reply from the State Council, China's Cabinet, to Anhui authorities on June 15.

Yixian county, which enjoys a long history and distinctive characteristics in traditional architecture, landscape and local culture, is known as "a museum of historical buildings of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties" and "the epitome of traditional Chinese culture".
