Thailand eyes bigger role in intl arena, with BRICS membership bid approved
Thailand's bid to join BRICS is evidence of the bloc's expanding influence and the growing voice of developing countries on the international stage, experts said.
On Tuesday, Thailand's Cabinet approved its strategic bid to become a member of BRICS, an intergovernmental organization founded in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India and China.
The membership has expanded to include countries such as South Africa in 2010, before Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates joined at the beginning of this year.
