SEG deepens presence in Saudi energy and petrochemical sector
SINOPEC Engineering Group, SEG for short, a leader in the energy and petrochemical engineering and construction industry in China, is committed to providing global clients with overall solutions for oil refining, petrochemical, aromatics, gas processing, new-type coal chemical, inorganic chemical, pharmaceutical, clean energy, storage and transportation facilities, and also environment and energy-saving.
With over 70 years of development, SEG has built in China 83 percent of petroleum refining capacity, 82 percent of ethylene capacity, 92 percent of paraxylene capacity, 16 percent of ammonia capacity, and 14 percent of methanol capacity. Since entering the Saudi market in 2005 with the SABIC Yansab Polyolefins EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) Project, SEG has continuously expanded its presence over the past 20 years. In sites such as Yanbu, Jubail, Rabigh, Hawiyah, Jazan, Turaif, Fadhili, Haradh, Qatif, Ras Tanura, Tanajib, Berri, Jafurah and Riyas, it has undertaken engineering and construction of large-scale refining and petrochemical projects and participated in building a series of medium to large oil and gas onshore facilities, providing services including engineering consulting, project management contracting, EPC, construction, maintenance and also lifting and transportation. The cumulative contract value for projects exceeded $12 billion.
SEG's engineering and construction teams are spread across major energy and petrochemical industrial zones in Saudi Arabia, achieving outstanding performances and establishing high-quality projects by contributing their youth, passion and diligence.
SEG has established long-term friendly cooperation with key clients such as Saudi Aramco, SABIC and Ma'aden. Through high-level visits and communications in recent years, mutual trust has been deepened, cooperation levels have been enhanced, and collaboration expanded. Currently, SEG is seeking to participate in mega oil & gas and petrochemical projects in Saudi Arabia. SEG has participated in National EPC Champions Program of Saudi Aramco and established a joint venture with its local partner.
SEG aims to contribute more to Saudi engineering companies' execution capabilities of EPC projects, the application of advanced technologies and development of the energy and petrochemical industry chain. It also hopes to enhance local employment and supplier localization in Saudi Arabia.
Throughout project collaborations, SEG adheres to local laws and regulations, respects local religious and cultural customs, fulfills corporate social responsibilities, and implements the Saudi government's Saudization policies and Saudi Aramco's In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) program.
SEG's efforts have led to a significant increase in the employment of Saudi nationals, with career development opportunities expanding continuously. Excellent Saudi employees have been sent to China for business and management training and Saudi employees who have achieved certain work performances were recognized as "outstanding employees of the company".
A subsidiary of SEG was given a Saudi labor development award by the Saudi Contractor Authority in 2023 and in 2024, and received an annual innovation training award from the authority.
