Train derailment kills 13, injures 98

Mexican authorities said on Sunday that at least ‍ ‍13 people were killed after an Interoceanic Train carrying 250 people derailed in the southern state of Oaxaca. The Mexican Navy said the train, which derailed near the town of Nizanda, was carrying nine crew members and 241 passengers. Of those on board, 139 were reported to be out of danger, while 98 were injured, including 36 who were receiving medical assistance.

Pro-military party claims win in 1st phase of polls

Myanmar's pro-military party claimed victory in the first phase of elections, a senior party official told Agence France-Presse. "We won 82 lower house seats in townships which have finished counting, out of the total of 102," a senior member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party told AFP. The figure implies that the party took more than 80 percent of the lower house seats that were put to the vote on Sunday. It won all eight townships in the capital Nay Pyi Daw, the official added, speaking on condition of anonymity.
