Distance and duty small obstacles on road to true love
New Year's 5,000-km trip underscores wife's selfless support for soldier husband
On the eve of Spring Festival, Huang Xin embarked on an extraordinary journey, traveling nearly 5,000 kilometers from Bama in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to a remote radar station high in the Karakoram Mountains in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to reunite with her husband, Meng Mingtao, a sergeant in the air force of the People's Liberation Army's Western Theater Command.
Though they have been married for a year, Meng and Huang had yet to celebrate their wedding with a proper ceremony. Their love had largely been sustained through video calls, bridging the vast distance between them. "I love him, so I support him,"Huang said. "No matter how far or difficult the journey, I wanted to see the place he loves."
