Kim Jong-un reelected State Affairs president
The Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Sunday reelected Kim Jong-un as president of the State Affairs, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Monday. At the first session of the 15th Supreme People's Assembly, Jo Yong-won was elected as chairman of the Standing Committee of the assembly, and Pak Thae-song was elected as premier of the Cabinet, according to the KCNA. The amendment and supplement to the Socialist Constitution of the DPRK was also discussed, it said.

Freedom Movement scores narrow win
Slovenia's ruling Freedom Movement, led by Prime Minister Robert Golob, secured a narrow victory in the country's parliamentary election on Sunday, according to preliminary results. With 99.85 percent of votes counted, the center-left Freedom Movement won 29 seats in the 90-member assembly, narrowly ahead of the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party, led by Janez Jansa, which won 28 seats, data from the State Election Commission showed. Voter turnout stood at around 68 percent, down from 71 percent in the 2022 election. Golob, who led a three-party center-left coalition during his last mandate, said he would invite all parties on Monday for coalition talks.

Former prime minister Lionel Jospin dies at 88
Former French prime minister Lionel Jospin died on Monday at the age of 88, RTL radio reported. Jospin served as prime minister from 1997 to 2002, with unsuccessful bids for the presidency in the 1995 and 2002 elections. A key figure in France's left-wing Socialist Party, he was first secretary of the party from 1981 to 1988 and again from 1995 to 1997. He underwent a major surgery in January and later returned home to recuperate, local media reported.
