Forty-two wild Asian elephants have gathered in a rural area of southwestern China's Yunnan province, moving between forests and farmland and occasionally venturing near villages.
The elephants, belonging to three herds, have been feeding in maize fields and passing close to villages in Mengxian township in Ning'er Hani and Yi autonomous county, prompting authorities to step up efforts to keep both people and elephants safe.
