Experts see more scope for enhancing ties
Head-of-state diplomacy helps to anchor Sino-US relations, establish dialogue
The summit between China and the United States in Washington, DC, last month has helped stabilize bilateral ties in the near term at least, with new agreements on trade and dialogue mechanisms offering room for further cooperation, analysts said.
During President Xi Jinping's state visit to the US from Sept 23 to 25, the two heads of state agreed to build "a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability based on respect, fairness and reciprocity". The consensus reached covers areas including trade, artificial intelligence, counternarcotics cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and future high-level engagement.
In an interview with China Daily, Sourabh Gupta, a resident senior fellow at the Institute for China-America Studies in Washington, DC, said that the relationship is "well anchored right now", though he cautioned that for now it is only "well anchored for the short term".
